Ashura Awareness Campaign 2008
The coming week sees the beginning of the new Islamic year with the arrival
of the holy month of Muharram and the tragic event of Ashura on the 10th of this
month. As in previous years, an Ashura Awareness
Stall will be running throughout the week during lunch times on campus
between Wednesday 9th - Wednesday 16th of January.
This year we will be
focusing on the specific aspects of Thirst and Justice that the layman can
identify with from the story of Ashura. Firstly on the level that the Imam and
his companions were suffering terribly from thirst and how people around the
world to this day do not have access to clean water. And secondly how the Imam's
stance on the day of Ashura was that for justice against a dictator and how
today it is our responsibility to also stand up for justice and speak against
corruption where ever it may be.
We hope to see you at our stalls where you can pick
up some freebies!
